Used batteries from a variety of our two-way radios and other communication tools contain ingredients such as nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion and small lead acid. These chemicals are potentially harmful to the environment, wildlife, and humans. When batteries are disposed of in landfills, their casings eventually corrode, allowing these toxins to make their way into our soils and water tables. Most batteries are less than two pounds in weight and can be recycled to help protect the sustainability of our environment.
Once single-use batteries lose their charge they cannot be recharged. Rechargeable batteries will lose their ability to hold a charge after 1,000 charges or 2-5 years, depending on how often they are used, and if they are handled and charged properly. We encourage recycling both kinds of batteries instead of throwing them in the trash.
Tridon supports Motorola’s agreement with Call2Recycle®, a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping batteries out of the waste stream, to recycle Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb) batteries on our behalf. The number of wireless products powered by batteries is skyrocketing. It is increasingly important for people recognize that batteries and cellphones may contain metals that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly.
Our goal is to divert these potentially harmful materials from the solid waste stream and recycle their by-products into new items, creating a more sustainable solution to the production of excess amounts of waste. We encourage all of our consumers to recycle responsibly when given the opportunity.
